About Mary Ann
Mary Ann O’Neil…..a leadership consultant with over 28 years in the field of executive development. Her work with Xerox, Texaco, ADP, First Data, Royal Bank of Scotland and several entrepreneurial companies has won her a reputation for being a dynamic and inspirational speaker, an executive coach, and an engaging management trainer. She has trained managers and executives in the US, Canada, Europe and Africa.
With a BA degree in psychology (Marymount College, Tarrytown, NY) and an MA in Early Childhood Education (LIU), Mary Ann started her own school, The O’Neil School for children pre-Kindergarten through third grade. A Total Quality project with the Xerox Corporation took her to the corporate world. Moving from singing with toddlers on rug squares to training corporate executives was an easy transition because she notes “Both have trouble getting along with others.”
Passionate about leadership and presently in a doctoral program, her dissertation is on the underrepresentation of women executives in revenue producing positions in Major League Sports. The term SUCCESSTROGEN was coined to note the personal level of success that women define for themselves and what they do to maintain it. The SUCCESSTROGEN blog is Mary Ann’s latest passion as she shares everyday observations and relates them to her ongoing pursuit of personal development.

The Moment Before - Today is a beautiful day on all levels. I worked hard, played well, didn’t seem to be rushing mindlessly, and called someone I hadn’t connected with in a while. Wanting to keep the good day going, I invited a few friends to “come for sunset”. The most fun way for me to entertain is on my terrace overlooking the Gulf. For tonight’s guests, I made a few simple hors d’oueves, selected the wine, chose the music, and decided which plates and napkins fit the mood. Just before my guests arrive I find myself sitting on the deck and smiling. I
realize that I love this moment, the moment before “it” all begins.
How Many is Not Too Many? - It was a great question, one that took me by surprise. I did not know how many was “not too many”. The take charge part of me wanted to give him an arbitrary number, such as six, but why six? Why not three or eight or fifteen? How many Wheat Thins is “not too many?”
The Power Within Us - We have many examples of women who found a power from within to deal with a challenge. After losing an arm to a shark in 2003, Bethany Hamilton pulled from the power within herself to return to the water and become a professional surfer. Other women have raised children without the help of a spouse or partner, and perhaps someone you know overcame the challenge of a life-threatening disease. I believe there is a power, a strength within each of us, for these difficult events.
